Wonder Over Yonder Reanimated:
"My Fair Hatey"

I completed shot 088 for a reanimated project.

I used this to explore TVPaint's texture feature.

Tools & Software: TVPaint, Clip Studio, watercolor, color pencil, and scrapbook paper.

Final Animation

Roughs

I didn't have any redesign ideas or change of layout for the shot. I decided to get extra stretchy and squishy with the animation to make the audience both a little grossed out by the eye and get a giggle with his accordion arms and crawling hand.

Clean Up & Color

I did a quick squiggly clean up line based on "Kaiju Problem" project's line work.

The base colored used for the characters were done using the Colors and Textures Generator Layer (CTG). Most of them would be covered by an added texture.

Paper Texture Exploration

I have a plethora of scrapbook paper I used for papercraft artwork. I thought I try TVPaint's texture feature similarly to how I make my illustrations and inspired by the show "Chowder". Since I had a limited color selection I used Clip Studio Paint to photoshop and change the colors. It took some testing and multiple scans at different resolutions to get the small 3" x 3" paper sharp when enlarged.

Some of these in the very end were not used.

Background

I noticed everyone was creating their shots completely digitally. I enjoy working traditionally so I thought make a watercolor painted background. I utilized TVPaint's perspective tool and used it as a lightbox for the physical piece. It did take three attempts to finally get the background I have.

Credit Art

I liked Wonder's travel bubble. It took a second try to get it how I like it.
